We’re excited to announce the addition of John Lawler to Lawler Construction as Senior Accountant & Office Administrator. Initially, John will oversee all financial aspects of the firm and over the coming months will add full administrative responsibility as well. John brings a steady hand to his work coming to the firm with a number of years’ experience in the accounting and consulting industries. This provides him with a perfect skill set to assess and improve our systems and introduce new aspects to our management and human resources functions. Bringing a trusted individual in to oversee the firm's finances will afford the entire management team an invigorated opportunity to prepare and plan for new growth in the years ahead.
John has a variety of experience working with many businesses ranging from small through mid-size and including large c-suite corporations. His experience includes both private and public sector financial work giving him a well-rounded outlook on all issues. John is very excited to be a part of the family business, joining his father and brother in delivering high quality products to our clients and the community. John will use his knowledge of accounting & financial matters and his background in process improvement to manage the firm's financial reporting, budgeting, risk and governance, financial strategy, office management, and team management.
As a graduate of The Ohio State University, John supports the Buckeyes whenever he can and has many strong and lasting friendships from that time in his life. With extended family living in Columbus, he is often able to make trips down for visits and sports events.
John’s previous positions include several years working in accounting advisory services where his primary focus was on providing financial reporting and complex technical accounting services to his clients. Prior to that, John spent time working as an audit senior with the Big 4 where he was responsible for multiple audit areas on large-scope contracts. John has worked or consulted for employers and clients in over a dozen different industries. These range from public to private and include stints which focused on construction, government and public works, food & beverage, and life sciences. John also has a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma and has experience with process improvement projects related to both financial controls and operational objectives. With a “high revving motor”, John brings with him great attention to detail coupled with a strong ability to see the greater picture. He has a strong working knowledge of robust and auditable documentation, a passion for continuous excellence, and the outside perspective of someone who has worked in different industries and different styles of organizations. Already welcomed by the existing staff, John brings an enthusiasm and positive can-do spirit to his position and to the company at large. With this kind of approach, he finds that if he doesn't already know the answer to something that he will find it or find someone who does.
Outside of work John enjoys weightlifting and works out regularly. He loves sports with a very special place in his heart for all of Cleveland sports. John enjoys video games with his favorites being from the early 2000's. A lover of the entire Star Wars franchise, John has seen almost all of the media from the original movies through the various spin-offs and the entire Star Wars universe that has been spawned over the decades. As a recent first-time homeowner, John enjoys cooking and having a yard of his own that he shares with his dog.
Supporting John’s stated interest in a quality work product, his favorite quote is,
"Nobody pays us for 99% of a job."
